Sunrise Cove

Sunrise Cove hosted by St James Vacation Homes

On the northern shores of Georgia’s Lake Sinclair sits Sunrise Cove, a pet-friendly 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath waterside home that offers abundant amenities, unparalleled scenery, and proximity to restaurants, retail, and boat/ski rentals. Just down the road (and we mean that, literally) is Oconee Springs Park, a family campground and waterpark that features a sandy beach, playground, volleyball court, paddleboats, waterslide, blob, and water trampoline. Outside guests (non-campers) can purchase a daily park pass for endless fun under the sun, and we guarantee that your little ones will be delightfully exhausted at the end of the day. With so much lakeside fun waiting in the backyard or around the corner, this retreat is perfect for families but also offers gate-free privacy for individuals and couples looking for a quiet getaway.

With plenty of parking and an access ramp that connects the paved driveway to the front door, guests will be impressed with the ease of hosting multiple cars and unloading luggage without the hassle of uneven terrain or outside steps! On the main level, the open floor plan (with recently restored hardwood flooring) boasts a spacious kitchen and dining area with hardwood floors and stainless-steel appliances, including a French door refrigerator, microwave, oven with smooth-top range, and dishwasher. A central island provides additional counter space and two barstools to compliment the adjacent breakfast bar which seats two and a nearby dining room with full-size table that accommodates eight.

The family room is anchored by a stone fireplace with an overhead flatscreen TV, perfect for winding down at the end of a long day under the sun. There’s plenty of room to stretch out and relax on the L-shaped sofa sleeper (queen mattress), plush armchair, or electric recliner complete with remote-controlled massage options. For those with some energy to expend, a game room provides plenty of entertainment with a foosball table and a leather sofa.

The second floor boasts all the home’s four bedrooms. The master wing provides plenty of privacy with a king bed, Eames-inspired lounge chair and ottoman, flatscreen TV, and coveted views of the shoreline. An ensuite bathroom comes with double-sink vanity, garden tub, walk-in shower, and a generously sized closet. On the opposite end of the hallway are three guest rooms –  double queen, one king, and one with two double bunks. Each room is outfitted with plush mattresses, flatscreen TVs, and ample space for guests. A shared full bath features a tub/shower and single vanity.

But the star of the show is just outside the doors to the back porch, where rocking chairs beckon, a propane grill awaits, and 13,500 acres of Lake Sinclair promise some of the best vacation memories you’ll ever have. The two-slip boat dock features a storage room, electric lifts, and large open deck. Guests can take advantage of a private boat ramp, as well.

The irresistible allure of tranquil lake life might keep guests from venturing beyond the driveway, but others may want to explore the surrounding community. Just down the road is the community of Rockville, whose two-story schoolhouse constructed in 1889 is a piece of state history. It’s believed that it was the first consolidated academy in Georgia, meaning that it combined students who were scattered throughout smaller schools in surrounding rural areas.

For basics and menu planning, Oconee Springs Park has a small supply store for essentials, and a nearby package store and convenience store are both 9 minutes by car. Kroger, Publix, and Ingles are all about 20-30 minutes away. If vacation means that the family chef is off duty, try Aubri Lane’s for contemporary southern cuisine with lakeside views. Georgia Bob’s is also a great option for BBQ and some of the best chicken salad around. If you’re on the water, visit The Grill at Crooked Creek Marina, which is a boat ride south of our property.

For true Southern culture, look no further than the largest city on Lake Sinclair. Milledgeville is a trove of history, having served as the state capital of Georgia from 1803-1863 and now as host to Georgia College & State University. Downtown Milledgeville is a 10-block historic district lined with antebellum masterpieces, including the Old Governor’s Mansion that was once occupied overnight by General William T. Sherman in his famous March to the Sea during the Civil War. Milledgeville also boasts Andalusia Farm, home of acclaimed late author, Flannery O’ Connor, who dryly remarked of her hometown, “When in Rome, do as you done in Milledgeville.” Another historic site worth visiting is the Central State Hospital Campus (formerly known as the Georgia State Lunatic, Idiot, and Epileptic Asylum), founded in 1842. At its height, it was the world’s largest mental health facility with 13,000 patients. It is still in operation but has downsized significantly. Visitors can go on a guided trolley tour of the original campus, and the tour guide is a former employee with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Half an hour away are the towns of Eatonton and Greensboro, home to Sinclair’s twin-separated-by-dam, Lake Oconee. Harmony Crossing (Eatonton) is home to some of our favorites, including LaLore Café and 44 Marketplace. In neighboring Greensboro, stock up at Publix, enjoy breakfast at Café 44, or try one of the blends from PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans. Both of these areas have historic downtown districts, a variety of dining and retail options, and seasonal farmers’ markets, festivals, and events that highlight the easygoing lifestyle of Lake Country.
